NOTE:  We have extended the application deadline to June 30, 2009.

Gabriel’s Foundation of HOPE will award one individual a $250 scholarship to help with post secondary education expenses.  This scholarship is available to any individual living with a disability or a student having a family member with a disability.  It is also available to students seeking a major in a field that will work with individuals with disabilities.  These majors include medicine, social work, or education.

We have a second $250 scholarship made possible by donations in memory of Helen Devine, Gigi Murfitt’s mother.  She was a teacher for twenty-six years.  This scholarship is for any student desiring to become a teacher.  The same application can be used for either scholarship.

Applications are being sent to high school counseling offices.  If your school does not have an application, please email us and we will send an application.  Email info@GabesHope.org  You can also download an application form from our FORMS section of the website.

Deadline for this years scholarship to be awarded prior to fall quarter 2009 is June 2, 2009.

Thanks so much for offering a scholarship. Our son Ethan has two learning disabilities. It was tough when he was diagnois with them but through the effort of good teachers, that wanted to see him succeed, it has been a long journey. Now as he gets ready for college, it has been tough, he was turned down by one college due to one of his disabilities, and another said that he would have to be on a probation type of program due to his short term memory. Ethan he was accepted at a really good college, but this college does not have what he needs. My son wants to be a Special Education teacher working with kids with DD disabilites and Physical disabilities with MI. I am truly amazed with Ethan, instead of taking easy classes for his last tri he has taken everything that is hard. I think the challenges for him mean life. I am so proud of him. I have only found two scholarships that help with disabilites for learning. I was not sure if yours helped in this area. Thank you for your time, and I am so proud of your son and the strenght that you have as a family.

    Hi Patti
Thank you for your email about your son Ethan. I’m sorry it has been difficult but I know that Ethan will succeed. It sounds like he has a wonderful mom (you) supporting him. Please be sure to fill out the scholarship application. We would love to help Ethan succeed in finding his dream of being a Special Education teacher. I know that God has a purpose for each of our kids. Scripture is rich with verses where Jesus focused on those who have such challenges. I will pray for you and your son. I look forward to receiving the scholarship application. If you did not pick one up at the conference, you can download it off our site. If that doesn’t work, please let me know and I will send you one via email or regular post mail. God bless. Gigi Murfitt

Hi Denise. I’m so sorry I’m just now responding to your comment. The comments were not forwarded to me. Did you fill out our application for the scholarship? We were overwhelmed by the response and have not finished going through all of them. We had to postpone our board meeting and will be deciding in the next few weeks for those who got their application in on time. I hope it all works out for you to go to school. Thanks.
